The Café Village by the Sea and other poems.

Sydney Actor and Poet Hugh Wade Publishes an Ode to his Beachside Home

Hugh Wade (Actor and Voiceover artist) has published a collection of poems entitled, The Café Village by the Sea, that combines text, art, spoken word and music to produce a unique package.

The inspiration for the title poem of this collection came while Hugh was cunningly disguised behind a black apron at one of Sydney’s beachside cafés.

As well as being a food and beverage delivery mechanism, Hugh has also worked for many years as an actor, taxi driver, TAFE teacher, props maker, driver, production designer for short films and as a narrator and voiceover for television, radio and documentaries, including several books for the ABC’s Australiana audio section, as well as narrating the popular ABC children’s animated televison series, Milly and Molly.

The collection was officially launched by State member for Coogee, Paul Pearce at Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst on Friday, 10 July 2009.

The collection of 22 poems, on audio CD and in print, presents observations and experiences covering the past twenty years, many of which have arisen during his life and times in Bronte.

With a healthy array of laconic phrases, the title poem characterizes the people who have been ‘bacon’n egging their way through the day’, along with ‘singers and surfers and uncles and aunts’ and of course, ‘yummy mummies with baby bonus kiddies’, who frequent the beachside village.

Other poems in the collection include: Bronte Midnight, Dad, Longbeach Bound, Transplanted Outsider, Spoems, Facebook Lover and Our Island Prince.

Cover art by Nick Hollo, music composed and performed by Denny Ball and David Chambers, words written and spoken by Hugh Wade.
